    MYSTERIES

    WITH SPIRITUAL MESSAGES

Woodborough Hill, Wiltshire, UK - 13 August 2000
    Credit: Freddy Silva

Is this a fake? Highly unlikely!

    Diameter = 250 feet

This spectacular design is based on the Golden Mean spiral, a mathematical ratio found in nature, and commonly refered to as phi. It is possible to draw a Golden Mean spiral by using a square and applying the phi ratio (1:1.618) to generate the various compass points required to grow the spiral. In the case of this crop circle, this would then have to be repeated 22 times, reversed and overlaid; fourteen concentric rings are then inscribed to complete the matrix. Then it's a matter of simply laying the crop in alternate segments.

But it doesn't end there. The entire 'sunflower' crop glyph consists of 22x2 spirals (clockwise, and counterclockwise), followed by 14 radial circles. Effectively this produces 44/17, or 22/7 - that convenient mathematical ratio for that other unusual mathematical conumdrum, pi.

See article by Freddy Silva in this issue of IJHC with evidence suggesting that sound mediates the formation of the circles, and speculations on possible sources for the circles.

    Energy Medicine: Fact or Fantasy?
    Daniel J. Benor, MD, ABHM
In the Complementary/ Alternative Therapy (CAM) community, it is commonly accepted that there is a biological energy (bioenergy) that surrounds and interpenetrates the body. The National Center for Complimentary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) acknowledges energy medicine as one of the branches of complementary and alternative medicine. Conventional science has been skeptical about this because it has been difficult to develop instruments that objectively measure bioenergies. This discussion explores theories to confirm the existence of bioenergies and to begin to explain them.

Energy Medicine: Fact or Fantasy? Research evidence

Is Sound Behind The Crop Circles?
    Freddy Silva
To date, some 10,000 crop circles have been catalogued, in twenty nine countries worldwide, and their anomalous features continue to defy human replication: plants bent an inch above soil; their cellular structure altered; stems lightly burned around the base; alterations to the crystalline structure of the affected soil; the evaporation of ground water, alteration of the local electro-magnetic field, and dowsable, long-lasting energy patterns, not to mention hundreds of measured effects on the human biological field. Sounds have been identified at the sites of some of the circles during their formation, suggesting that sound is one of the likely causal or organizing factors in their creation. This article presents evidence and theories in support of this hypothesis.

    Living with Life Challenges

Using Complementary Energy Work and Traditional Therapy To Achieve Wellness: Colleen's Story
    Peggy Koelliker, CH, EFT-ADV
After years of being plagued by depression and bipolar disorder and sinking deeper into despair, when Colleen experienced a slight reprieve and expressed a desire to finally 'climb out of the hole,' her psychiatrist seized the opportunity. She encouraged Colleen to enlist the help of the author, a Cleveland area complementary energy practitioner, to undertake the 'soul work' that years of traditional therapy and anti-depressants had not resolved. With the help of a variety of energy therapies, including EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), RoHun Therapy (a form of spiritual psychotherapy), Light Journey Work and ongoing breath work, Peggy and Colleen were able to energetically release the 'black cloud' that Colleen carried with her. After 11 sessions over the course of nine months, Colleen dramatically improved her life by continuing to use the tools the author introduced in their energy work.

Colleen's Story is a courageous account of personal discovery. This article provides a roadmap for using complementary energy therapies in tandem with traditional approaches to bring about ease of suffering and transformation. Most importantly, it was Colleen's 'commitment to change' that made the transformation and ongoing journey possible. This heartfelt article will bring hope to many who work with clients challenged by long-standing depression and bipolar disorder which have not been eased by traditional therapy and medication regimens.

Variations on the Theme of Healing

Awareness-Acceptance and Transformation (AAT©): Letting-go of distress and trauma using the wisdom of your body and expanding consciousness
    Maria J. Becker, MD, FRCP(C)
AAT involves three simple steps: Awareness of distress/trauma. Acceptance of distress/trauma in the body. Transformation of distress/trauma through mindful relaxation. AAT is a wholistic model of intervention. It uses basic concepts of conventional psychology, energy psychology, the notion of consciousness and spiritual aspects of the human life.

AAT evolved out of my clinical practice as a need to conduct healing of the body mind and spirit in the most natural, uncomplicated way possible. AAT is a method that is rapid, induces profound healing, does not involve the use of unusual formulas or strategies to remember, and can be executed anywhere, any time, in complete privacy and discretion. After systematic testing, I became amazed with its effectiveness and the positive feedback I was receiving from my patients. They found it easy to use consistently and required little guidance from myself.

    What Is Sound Healing?
    Simon Heather
Sound Healing is one of the oldest forms of healing known to man. We are now realising how powerful sound can be when used for healing. This article explains why sound is so healing for us, discusses the principles of sound healing - resonance, entrainment and intention, the healing power of the voice, harmonics and musical intervals, chant and rhythm. Scientific research is reviewed on sound healing and how sound effects the cells in our body. This article highlights the unique power for healing that is contained in our voices. When we sing we resonate every cell in our body. Sound healing offers us all the possibility of a drug free way of treating pain and illness as well as a way of tuning ourselves to the Divine.

Tribal Dreamstory Circles: A New Look at Ancient Wisdom
    Muriel McMahon
This discussion traces a relationship between Jungian psychology and more ancient methods of dream tending and storytelling. Utilizing the modality of Algonkin Traditional dreamstorytelling as a medium for constellating, activating, and sharing the tribal dream, Jungian approaches to group dreams and group dream work are explored, using sociological and narrative lenses. The conceptual frameworks of the communal or relational unconscious, kinship libido, and the 'tribal unconscious' are introduced, amplified, and integrated with Traditional teachings. This brief overview articulates a call for individuating group models and healing community building.

The Examination of Handwriting to Determine Health Issues
    Karen Fisher-Weinberg, QDE
In Germany, when a child enters school with a learning disability, they are automatically put on Grapho-Therapy. Why isn't the same thinking visible in the USA in our schools? Handwriting is brain writing - the training and conditioning of the brain to connect with the world in a healthy way - and yet we all hear about the schools wanting to eliminate the teaching of handwriting. I wrote this article so that you could make your own decision about whether they are right or not. If I am right, all over the country, start letting your voices be heard. Keep teaching cursive writing in school.

This article is about the journey into my live and the lives of Julie, Peggy, Ann and John. Each of us has successfully used Grapho-Therapy to return to a more productive life.

Student and Healee Experiences of Healing

Through the Eyes of a Young Therapist: A Psychotherapy Internship
    Claudia Pina, MSW Student
My anxious, shallow breath caught in my throat. I walked into my dimly lit office eagerly awaiting my very first client. I carefully screened my office to ensure that I had enough tissue, that my chair was positioned directly across from the clock on my desk and from the chair where my client would later sit. I was interrupted by the over head page announcing my name, hurried down the hall and turned the corner to introduce myself to a tall middle-aged man, with striking blue eyes, which were slowly tearing up as we walked back to my office. I remember feeling slightly arrogant and walking with a confidence in my stride. I was sure that I had the skills to 'heal' this man. After all, I did ace my first Basic Clinical Skills exam where I conquered the techniques of open-ended questions, close-ended questions, transference, and crisis intervention. Clearly, I was defending against how powerless and fearful I truly felt. I made it through our initial session with no battle wounds other than my bruised ego from realizing that I was just beginning with my first client and that I did not have all the answers. My next client came and went, and the next, and the next – my schedule for the next seven months of my internship.
