There is much unexplored potential in each human being. We are not just flesh and bone or an amalgamation of conditionings. If this were so, our future on this planet would not be very bright. But there is infinitely more to life, and each passionate being who dares to explore beyond the fragmentary and superficial into the mystery of totality helps all humanity perceive what it is to be fully human. Revolution, total revolution, implies experimenting with the impossible. And when an individual takes a step in the direction of the new, the impossible, the whole human race travels through that individual. - Vimala Thakar
As I deepen my intuitive, meditative, healing awarenesses deepen as I contemplate my place in the world, my sense of oneness within myself and between myself and other individuals. The holiday season and New Year of Western civilization today invite us to reflect on where we are in the world and where we would like to be - personally, societally, globally, and Cosmically. So my focus extends to include my participation in the collective human consciousness; the collective consciousness of myself and all aspects of Gaia, including her animals, plants, earth, waters and air; and on into the consciousness that extends to encompass the All that is beyond human knowing or comprehension.
As my consciousness expands, it provides new perspectives on everyday, sensory realities. My daily activities and thoughts both shrink and expand in their importance. They shrink in the areas of concerns about the important and essential minutia of putting bread on the table and having a sound roof over my head. They expand in the awareness that my every thought and feeling contribute to the sum total of consciousness in the collective awareness:
When I focus with thanks - to the Infinite Source and to all who contribute to my wellbeing - on what is in the full portion of my glass, I add to the harmony and healing of all that IS. When I focus with anxieties or negativity on what is missing from my glass, I contribute to the collective post-traumatic stress disorder of humanity and of Gaia. With the positive, I add to the healing of Gaia; with the negative, I add to the harming of Gaia.
As I connect more deeply with Cosmic awareness, I appreciate much more how distanced I was from contributing to healing our planet. I sense a connection with the Winter Solstice - the shift from shortening of days to lengthening of days - as the true time of turning of the seasons and the start of a new year. I begin to understand why I have felt a decreasing resonation with Western celebrations of the new (Gregorian, Christian) calendar year. This calendar shifts our awareness away from our oneness with nature and the natural world, elevating the world of humans above that of all other sentience on our planet.
The Jewish calendar of my ethnic origins, based on the lunar month, comes closer to what now speaks to me. However, while the moon cycles point us towards cosmic awareness, they put a focus on that which is not on our planet - although intimately related with our planet.
My new year's resolution: To take time every day to ask, "How am I contributing, as part of this planet, to its survival? To the survival of all aspects of Gaia?" I really would like to see my grandchildren survive in the flesh, not just in spirit. i promise to deepen my practice of WHEE combined with Ho'oponopono for healing the collective PTSD of our planet.
Blessings and best wishes for a deeply healing new year
