Background
The Doctor-Healer
Network (UK) was born in 1988 in
London, England, following a weekend seminar with
pairs of doctors and healers who were working together
. Each of the physican and healer participants had known
some
but not all of the others. The seminar was a great
success, with everyone coming away enriched through learning
from the experiences of colleagues who were exploring spiritual
healing in parallel but often different ways.
The participants agreed
to meet periodically to continue their mutual explorations
in day-long seminars. Mornings were devoted to discussions
among members who had already attended at least one meeting.
We would share
our
explorations and experiences, challenges and questions
- personal and professional - in the realms of spiritual
healing. During the pot-luck lunches, new participants
would join the group. Afternoons were devoted to an hour's
presentation by one of the members, followed by small group
discussions.
Most
of the DHN physicians work with healers. A few have developed
their own healing gifts. Healers have seen people in their
own clinics
on referral from the doctors; have sometiems been invited to
work in rooms at the doctors' offices; and in some cases have
seen patients simultaneously with the doctors. Some of the
healers have been paid for their work by the National Health
Service. (The IJHC
January 2005 has an article by Angie Buxton-King
about her work on a children's cancer unit in a UK hospital.)
Over
the years, DHN groups were formed in other cities. Each developed
its own format for meetings - some on weekday evenings once
a month; others for half a day or a day on weekends. The London
group remains the largest and strongest, and is the
focal point
for the organization.

Newsletters
were published 1991 - 1994, sharing some of the experiences
and observations of the DHN participants. See Newsletters. The DHN today continues to be a meeting place where doctors and healers and related caregivers explore spiritual healing.

Daniel Benor, MD,
founder of the DHN-UK, moved to the US in 1997. He has
been gathering names of doctors who are involved in healing
(mostly as healers rather than with healers,
and has held several seminars with groups of these pioneering
physicians over the past 7 years. The participants are
scattered around the US,
making it difficult to hold ongoing meetings in person.

We have
started a teleconference group, which we are limiting to 12
participants.
Further groups will
be organized as numbers of interested participants gather.
Physicians interested
in participating should contact Nan Goldstein,
MD, or Dr. Benor - contact details below.
