    Teaching Healing: A Serious Challenge
Daniel J. Benor, MD - IJHC Editor
Our world can be perceived and experienced as matter or as energy. Einstein suggested this early in the 20th Century in his famous equation, E = mc2 and modern physics has amply confirmed this theory. Matter and energy are two sides of the same coin. Newtonian medicine focuses on the matter side of the equation and has been slow to absorb that the body can also be addressed as energies. Healers and many other CAM therapies address the energy side of this equation.

    The Conscious Internet
    Francesca McCartney, PhD
The Internet is a network which is spawning a quantum leap in human consciousness. The blending of digital reality with human reality blurs the distinction between electronic-based and biological-based systems. The World Wide Web of the Internet collapses distance, time and proximity in human communications and creates a unified state of constant connectedness. Casting an invisible net over the globe, the World Wide Web is collapsing and shortening the spaces between individuals.

An Empirical Study of the Transmission of Healing Energy via E-Mail
    Francesca McCartney, PhD
Healing can be focused via emails

This research studies the intentional encapsulation of healing energies into an email text message and transmission of these energies via the Internet to an intended intuitive recipient. This study, framed within the field of energy medicine, researches the potential impact on the learning of distance student, and investigates a method for a stronger link-transference of information between distance educators and students. This study tests information discovery on non-linear, non-local communication, and studies an implied evolution of the sense of intuition.

Distance education and intuitive communication are both non-linear, non-local systems of information exchange. Internet email can hold intentional sensorial resonance; and this type of email can be used as a provider of energy-information which can be utilized as part of an energy medicine distance education program. An intuitive person can open an Internet transmitted email and receive the emotional/cognitive content of intentionally encapsulated energy/information; and this occurs both as a non-local and non-linear experience...

Within this research is a hypothesis that a student and teacher may be more strongly connected at a distance with the intentional link of energy/intention included within the curriculum of a distance education program. This linkage information gives new significance to distance healing research within the medical, parapsychological, and noetic sciences. This research seeks to inspire and identify fertile areas for further cross-disciplinary exploration...

Nathan's Story from: A Month-Long Study of the Effects of Holistic Interventions for a 68-Year-Old Widower Coping with Cancer
    Rondi Lightmark, M.A.
This qualitative single case study explores the impact of a month-long program of holistic interventions, including self-massage, toning, meditation, painting, creative writing, dreamwork, visualization and prayer, for a 68-year-old widower with cancer. Other elements included semi-structured interviews and viewing of videos on psychic awareness, life after death and family systems therapy.

The research question was whether holistic practices would help the participant manage the challenges of his illness, clarify and deal with any unresolved issues, and envision new paths to self-actualization.

Borderline Personality (Part2): Recovering from Abuse
    David Gersten, MD
It is possible to recover from severe abuse

During my psychiatric training I was cautioned to never treat more than two people with BPD during any one time period, because of the difficulty in treating people with BPD. The reality is that half of the people in psychiatric hospitals suffer from BPD, so this recommendation was a theoretical one, and not a practical suggestion. After decades of work with survivors of abuse, I determined that four persistent inner states are at the core of the living hell of many survivors. Those inner states are: 1. the wounded inner child, 2. the battlefield, 3. the void, and 4. the inner abuser. For those who were sexually abused, there is a fifth persisting condition, namely "body armor." While there is one boy sexually molested for every four girls molested, my clinical experience has been mainly with female adult survivors. Because abuse is epidemic and because every one of you is either a survivor of abuse or knows someone who is, I will clarify in some detail the many facets of abuse.

Healing And Transformation: My Experience In Palliative Care
    Sithara Batcha, BS
Uplifting experiences in caring for the dying

I spent the month of November pursuing an elective in palliative care. Although I was surrounded by death and dying, the elective was not depressing and hopeless. This was because death was transformed in the palliative care setting: it was no longer seen as an enemy to be defeated, but rather viewed as the natural end of life. Hope was thereby redefined from living as long as possible to living a contented, meaningful life in the time one has left. I learned that treating physical, psychological, social and spiritual distress in a comprehensive manner is critical in helping people live their last days in peace and comfort, and to ease their journey to the next realm.

I had a wonderful and enriching experience that allowed me to recall, renew and deepen my love for healing...

    Animal Communications and Healing

    The Healing Powers Of Animals
    Cathy Malkin
Animals are natural healers with amazing and magical abilities to heal humans in profound ways that are holistic in nature. They bring us healing for our minds, bodies, emotions and yes, even our spirits. Animals have the ability to heal us: The library of clinical studies proves the healing efficacy of animals over and over again (Delta Society). The anecdotal evidence is even more abundant. For many, their direct, personal experiences of being healed by animals offer further proof that animals are genuine healers.

Whether we share our lives with companion animals, receive a visit from an animal assisted therapy team, or benefit from an assistance/service animal, the therapeutic benefits can be felt immediately by all those involved.

Animals as Mirrors, Animals as Healers
    Terri S. Diener, MA
Animals' healing lessons - facilitated by an animal communicator

The human-animal bond offers profound healing for people and their animal companions when the people recognize that their animals’ behaviors and illnesses are a reflection of what is going with them. Getting this message across in a way that empowers the people, without it getting distorted into guilt and self-judgment, is a crucial part of this job. In this respect, animal communicators become healing guides, just as therapists, acupuncturists, massage practitioners, etc., are for their clients...

As an animal communicator with a background in counseling, coaching and soft skills training, I get to see on a daily basis profound healing for people and their animal companions when the people recognize that their animals’ behaviors and illnesses are reflections of what is going on with them. While this is not always the case, it has proven true most of the time. It can be a reflection of something obvious, or something that is subtle or even unconscious.

If We Could Talk to the Animals
    Ingrid Collins
Intuitive people can clarify animal communicatons

How would we feel if, when talking to our pets, we could listen to their replies? How would it enrich our life if we knew just how our affection for them was perceived by our animal friends, and the nature of their feelings for us? How do they react to pregnancy, birth and death? By what miracle is it possible to share their intimate world, with their permission and cooperation?

For quite a while now I have been intrigued by the phenomenon of interspecies communication. On occasions I have heard about some people who have developed the gift of communicating with animals, and realized with growing excitement that many of us have the sensitivity to develop this skill for ourselves. It was with this in mind that I went to a conference in the spring of 2003,about The Field, the dimensionof subtle energy in which all life exists and is connected, one life form to another. Cutting edge scientists, who presented papers about telepathy and imprinting physical matter with effective intention, are proving the existence of these and related processes in their laboratories worldwide...

    Jello: A Hospice Therapy Cat
    Diane Grindol
Pets can be great therapists in hospice

It is Sister Judy Seefeld, an Adrian Dominican Catholic nun, who has arranged transportation, food and lodging for Jello through the years and originally lined up her therapy work. From the time Sister Judy first got to know Jello, she noticed that she was especially friendly and gentle. Sister Judy thought she should be sharing her with other people, somehow. In 1996 she was at the Hospice to return some materials she was using in her classroom, where a student had a brain tumor that would eventually claim her life. Sister Judy mentioned to one of the hospice administrative staff that she had a cat and would like to do something to share her with people who would appreciate her special loving qualities.

The Hospice administrator responded, "We have a pet program here that was popular, but the participant numbers have dwindled. If you think Jello would be a good therapy cat, bring her in so I can meet her." Sister Judy's heart skipped a beat. This was the opportunity she had hoped for. Jello had an interview in short order, and eschewing all propriety, jumped up on the desk to meet her new "boss." The administrator fell in love with Jello, who had all the glowing attributes that Sister Judy had described. There wasn't any hesitation about signing Jello up as a therapy cat. Sister Judy started to work on the paperwork required for Jello to be at Hospice regularly. She needed a physical to bring her vaccinations up to date and a letter from her veterinarian stating that she was free from disease.

Within a couple weeks they started their visits...

The Healing Bond: One Therapist's Quest for Healing and the Canine Companion Who Showed Him the Way
    Larry Lachman, PsyD
One simple phone call changed my life. "Larry, you have cancer." The words rang in my ears. I felt like I had been pushed off a cliff. I was light-headed and teary eyed. Hot and cold chills ran through my body. And my heart pounded and throat tightened.

That May afternoon my urologist told me the biopsies came back samples were negative, but the fifth was positive. "I can't believe it either. I'm sorry Larry. I'm really sorry."

    I had cancer.

    A Cat Participating with Healers
    Brian Dailey, MD
Our Reiki circle met at Susie Cotsworth's for the first time today. Her cat Homey decided to participate. I had been holding my hand above this individual's shoulder, when Homey put his paw out and did the same. He spread his toes. I am sensitive to energy and saw him sending it to her (which is why I am laughing in the picture). He proceeded to lift his paw numerous times to treat various different individuals (I have other pictures, but this one came out best).

Cats and Birds: A Backyard Experience
    Martina Steiger
One of the most important teachers I have had over the past two decades was undoubtedly my cat Muschi, a stray that adopted my husband, Paul, and me about ten years ago and whose arrival led to many miracles in our household. Muschi adopted us by showing up at the deck door every evening and every morning for several days in a row, pressing his extremely pretty but lost-looking face into the glass. I had never had any pets in my life and was unsure what I wanted to do about this rather determined cat. Being the amazing cat he is, it only took him a few days until I began feeding him and soon thereafter he walked through the door, sat on the kitchen floor right in front of the food cupboard and meowed. He knew he had found his home.

From - Animals as Mirrors, Animals as Healers
    Terry S. Diener, MA
Josephine, a 5-year-old lab mix, was going blind from retinal atrophy. She told me, “The man is mean to her and makes her sad and cry.” When Ellen, her person, called, Josie had just come out of a 6-hour episode where she was frantically bumping into furniture and walls. Josie said Ellen did not see how destructive her 20-year, on again, off again relationship was. Josie temporarily lost her sight immediately after the man literally kicked her off the bed. Ellen told me he didn’t mean it; and added that he was a master healer. In telling Ellen what Josie had to say, (and reminding her that true healers are not mean), Ellen reluctantly confirmed Josie’s observation.
