Adding a Name to WHEE: Transformative Wholistic Reintegration (TWR)
Daniel J. Benor, MD, ABIHM
Over the years, numbers of people have suggested that the name WHEE
is not conducive to its acceptance in conventional medical and business
settings, even though it has major potential contributions to make in
these areas.
The majority of people who are seeking relief for pain, stress and
distress are comfortable with WHEE, and in fact come into feelings of
release and elation through using WHEE. They are also comfortable with
the full names that form the 'WHEE' acronym: Whole Health – Easily and
Effectively; as well as with Wholistic Hybrid derived from EMDR and EFT.
Conventional practitioners and people in management have responded that
WHEE sounds frivolous to them, and not a modality that they would be
drawn to explore for their patients or employees. They also note that
WHEE also reminds them of the computer game called 'wii,' which does not
promote a serious resonation when they hear 'WHEE.'
We've had several months of deliberation and consultations with whoever
responded – from our list of WHEE workshop participants and WHEE book
and digital products purchases – to inquiries about suggested
alternative names. We've settled on Transformative Wholistic
Reintegration (TWR) as most closely describing what WHEE is and does –
in more neutral terms and in an acronym that does not have negative
associations to it.
So it is with the anticipation of expanding acceptance of TWR that we go forward in the new year.
Absence of Negatives Does Not Predict Presence of Positives in Our Lives
Daniel J. Benor, MD, ABIHM
I was startled to read that "…positive and negative emotions need to be measured separately in research on well-being. It cannot be assumed that the presence of one indicates the absence of the other." (Emmons, 2003, p. 44)
I find that people are able to rapidly release negative, bothersome thoughts, memories and emotions with WHEE (Whole Health – Easily and Effectively). I find that most people will spontaneously come into more positive thoughts and feelings when they have released their negative issues down to the level of zero (on a scale of 10) or close to zero.
I had assumed therefore that through the reduction and then absence of negativity, people are freed up to shift into positivity. Conversely, I expected that people who have positive worldviews would be generally more free of negativity.
