I've been traveling most of November in Europe and the US, and moving to Canada in the past two weeks. I'm starting to work at the College for International Holistic Studies in Milton, Ontario, near Toronto. This is a Natural Medicine center (or centre, as it is spelled here), where certification courses and treatments are offered with Acupuncture, Herbalism, Massage, Nutrition, Spiritual Healing and the LIFE Systems device (offering bioenergetic assessments and treatments). See more at www.cihs.ca
To this spectrum I will add a course on Wholistic Psychotherapy Methods, Theory and Practice and a clinical course with live and videotaped supervision in Wholistic Psychotherapy, and setting up a clinic for Wholistic Psychotherapy.
I am very pleased to be returning to the full time practice and teaching of psychotherapy - which has always been my passion. I have a BA in Psychology and three years of training in psychotherapy as a psychiatrist, from the days when Psychiatry was exclusively psychotherapy. I have been distressed over the years to find Psychiatry converted to the almost exclusive writing of prescriptions for psychoactive medications. What a breath of fresh (even if rather cold!) air to be in Canada and returning to the work that is my first love!
My travels have been a joy and broadening of horizons, as always. In England, Basel and Stockholm I gave workshops on WHEE and lectures on Wholistic Spiritual Healing research. I was pleased to find the same excellent responses to WHEE across the waters as in North America. I have yet to find a workshop participant who claims my money back guarantee if they have no response to WHEE (when used as taught).
I did have several anxious moments, though in front of an audience of several hundred in Basel. 'Norma,' an English-speaking woman, volunteered to demonstrate how WHEE might help the pains in her shoulders. When she came forward in front of the auditorium, she then added that she also had pains all down her back and in her hips; that these had been present since age 15 (I estimated her age to be in her 50s), and that the pains started after years of verbal, emotional and physical abuse of herself and her siblings by her father.
This was much more serious than I had anticipated, and not the sort of problem I would have selected for demonstration, had I known its full extent from the start. My intuition said to proceed anyway, so ahead we went with the WHEE. Well, Norma reported no benefits whatsoever from a good ten minutes of using several variations on the theme of WHEE. (I was beginning to wish I could use it myself for my stage anxiety!)
Norma then felt that there was a tiiny shift in her shoulders, but hardly worth mentioning. I had her focus on her shoulders alone, and within minutes these pains dissipated completely. She was tearful with relief, reporting she had not known this level of ease and freedom from pain in her shoulders for years. I asked her, "What would you like to do, now that your shoulders are free of pain?" She responded after a brief, thoughtful pause, "I'd like to give someone a hug! Can I give you a hug? And next, I want to hug my husband, who is here with me."
This was a good start to the experiential workshop!
