Meditation (Apr 2009)
Group meditation invites us to experience the power of collective consciousness, in which each of us participates as a brain cell in a vast, cosmic mind. Check out a variety of meditation groups and get a sense of how you can become a more conscious part of a greater whole.
The complex relationships formed in community offer us the opportunity to draw inspiration from a larger whole. Anne Hillman, author of The Dancing Animal Woman: A Celebration of Life, perceptively explains that, 'As we weave our own stories into the tapestry of life around us, we begin to develop a wholly different perception of what it means to be human. This larger identity is formed in a group. It cannot be formed in isolated nuclear families, as our first identity was. We need the combined energy and wisdom of larger numbers. 'So many are required for the truth!' Perhaps this is the strong pull to community and group life that many of us feel... Perhaps a new archetype of the group is coming into being....This resonance is a presence that may become a kind of 'knowing together,' (con-sciousness). Might then some higher intelligence begin to move our species as a group so that each of us becomes an instrument, attuned to the whole flock?'
On the path of balance, remember that you are never alone. Continue to seek out kindred souls and allies with whom your journey can be truly shared in a mutually fulfilling way.
