Climate change is the number one healing focus at this time. If we do not adequately address this crisis, we are likely to see changes on our planet that will threaten all life as we know it today. These changes may take place within a very few years.
James Lovelock established the modern concept of Gaia, our living planetary system that includes all life forms and all inanimate matter as a living entity. In his earlier books he suggests numerous ways in which Gaia maintains her balance of water, chemicals, living organisms (from bacteria to plants and animals) and – relevant to this Blog entry, her temperature.
Over several billion years, the oxygen and carbon dioxide levels have been incredibly constant, despite major shifts in the plant and animal species in existence. When temperatures rose higher than they are at present, our planet became a large desert over most of her surface.
In his new book, Lovelock and his co-authors show how we are headed towards another period in which Gaia will be a desert again over almost all of her surface.
