...the noble truth of suffering is the first step on the path to the eradication of suffering. But suffering is the essential lens, as the microscope is to the bacteriologist... Paul R Fleischman from The Healing Spirit
As a child I was very different from the people in my small village in Lebanon. I was more intuitive and in tune with nature, while they cared more for material things - for money, large homes, cars and such things.
I went to study medicine in Romania because I wanted to understand myself and other people. I was very disappointed to find that the hospital is not a good place for treating people.
I wrote poetry. I felt better doing this, though only a few people seemed to understand me. Books were my friends. I found that what came to me intuitively was written also in the Bible and in books of old philosophers like Plato, as well as in books by spiritual healers.
When I returned to Lebanon I felt even more that I didn't fit in. Doctors wanted to make a lot of money, not to really care for their patients. I revolted against all this and was shunned by family and colleagues.
I treated people as a General Practitioner in their homes, where I could see what helped and what didn't. Medications alone were not enough to relieve suffering. I found that I could help more with massage. Gradually I realised that the effects of my massage were greater than one could expect from physical touch or manipulation.
It is through this crucible of life that the ideas of Hayawi medicine developed.
Hayawi is an Arabic word meaning 'life'. I use this term for the life energy, which cannot be defined precisely in scientific terms.
Hayawi is the energy which brings life into life and nourishes life. It is itself an action. It was described in the traditions of Plato and St Gregorios Palamas as 'inspitation', that which binds man to God and sets him in his relationship to an essence higher than himself. So-called 'primitive' societies are closer to universal awareness than industrially more developed ones. To them Hayawi is the natural order of medicine.
Hayawi is a signal for the coming together of the doctor and patient. It is also a goal for healing.
The essence of Hayawi is not in chemical reactions or in the complexities of quantum physics. Its actions cannot be measured in laboratory tests.
The essence of Hayawi is in human spirituality. It never deals solely with the patient as a physical being with disease, but with individual obstructions of created and uncreated energy. It brings with it the inner awareness of moral laws of right and wrong for the individual, his relationships and the planet. It comes not from teachings of wise Masters. It comes from the inner knowing which is a part of Hayawi. It is not an anonymous code for behavior which is rigidified through many ages of ritualised practices. It is a living, formative force for one's personality and individuality.
Hayawi medicine proposes an essential new holistic vision on the fundamental relationships of physician and patient, illness and health. There are three main principles to Hayawi medicine.
A Hayawi physician is a healer. He is more than an office worker who uses abstract notions, strictly specific, of anatomy, biology and psychology. He is a gateway to spiritual matters rather than to diagnoses from anatomy, biology and psychology. Just like a violinist or a poet, the AHayawi physician is not merely a technician but an inspired artist.
A Hayawi physician is inspired by an inner, moral code. This is not a doctrinal legislation but a philosophy of living and transcendence. It is a vital, inspirational energy which brings with it love.
As with Heraclitus of Ephes and the Biblical prophets, Hayawi opens one to a battle of opposites and a mystical fright. It is fed by the suffering which generates love. It grows from the dysharmony which generates harmony. The physician is no longer a poor propitiatory person who mechanically ministers to his patient's illness. He is an inspired man who brings his own total energy and being, his force and his helplessness to bear upon the existential moment of the patient's presentation. The Hayawi physician is a living destiny, at the same time judging and being judged.
Hayawi must not be taken as a rejection of allopathic medicine. Hayawi adds vibrational medicine to conventional medicine. It brings science to the spirit of God.
In Hayawi medicine, patient, illness and health do not really exist. These are inventions of the rationalist practice which is based on repetition, quantity and order. They are negative and condemning. They poison each contact and collaboration between physician and man. They change medical institutions into tribunals and executioners.
The hayawi physician is an inspired man. He can thus reveal to people he treats that they are inspired too. Hayawi medicine is, more than an institution, a human force acting and regenerating through a dynamic and continuous rediscovery of the uniqueness of life. It focuses on each individual's right to be healed.
Hayawi medicine holds that life is in itself superior to healing. Therefore healing cannot be in itself a goal or a necessity. Healing is not a compulsory way to vital life. It does not serve life but can only affirm it. The happiness preached by Jesus contains this essential truth. If we make an obsession and a demand of healing we thereby deny eternal life.
My understanding of Hayawi medicine continues to grow and deepen. In coming to England I began to understand that what I am doing is spiritual healing.
Despite poverty and war, and even in the most difficult situations, when I ask God for help for patients it comes. Through massage and healing many illnesses have been relieved, including serious ones like multiple sclerosis and cancer. It happens through me. It is not my own power doing it.
My intuition guides me. I have not worried about money or other material matters. Somehow all this is taken care of.
In summary: Rationalist medicine reduces healing into a negative, atheistic, limited and limiting treatment through quantitative practices and mechanistic theories.
Hayawi medicine views the healing process as transcendental action of inspiration. It is a proof, a positive statement based on intuitive awareness of higher dimensions and eternal knowledge.
Hayawi expresses itself as a spiritual dimension in medicine which is beyond words. Its forms have existed forever. This very moment of your reading these words is another moment of its awareness. A Hayawi physician is, more than anything, a potent and enlightening presence.
