Featured Therapist (Sept 2008)
Steven P. Gaynor, DPM, DABPS
I am the founder of “Energetic Diamond Balancing” (EDR) and have been an EDR facilitator and giving workshops since 2002. Prior to my wholistic healing practice I was a Podiatrist and board certified in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery as well as an adjunct clinical professor of several Podiatric medical schools.
EDR is much like Reiki but differs in that no symbols are used to tap into. Everything is already present within our own inner spiritual vessel and I am helping to facilitate clients to open their own spiritual door and discover their hidden gifts. This process happens through my intent and as my energy melds with my clients’ through their permission, trust and desire to heal. There are times I will also do a guided meditation to help the process along and bring the client deeper into themselves.
During the session, I can feel a deep and profound spiritual connection to myself, my client and the universe when the client truly opens themselves up for healing. There is truly nothing that compares to this experience for its an opportunity to experience the Divine essence that is embodied within every part of our being.
All energy seeks resolution and to facilitate this I have my clients hold the thought of their underlying problem in their mind as they take a deep breath into their energetic wound as I support them energetically. With intent, I then invite my clients slowly exhale through their heart chakra to the universe as I also help facilitate this process. I see their imbalanced energy flow out their heart chakra and return back rebalanced and with greater understanding and clarity of what that life experience was about.
I have been incorporating WHEE in my “Energetic Diamond Rebalancing” (a form of energy work like Reiki) healing practice since learning WHEE from Dr. Benor almost two years ago. One year earlier to implementing WHEE, I had been using EFT but have found that WHEE is much quicker and more simple to perform in its mechanical application while delivering the same powerful results. I have applied WHEE to a wide variety of problems from physical pain, emotional issues, phobias, addictions, to changes in belief systems, resolution of personal and ancestral karma to name a few.
There are many times where I will apply WHEE first, as it is more acceptable to those unfamiliar with energy work/spiritual healing. Using WHEE first also allows my client to feel comfortable with me, the facilitator and feel safe. My intent in the beginning and throughout any session (WHEE or EDR) is to always have compassion so that I may create a safe space for myself and my client. Unlike sympathy, which is feeling sorry for another and adding energy to the client’s problem, compassion is accepting the client's choices without judgment. When judgment is not present, clients will feel safe to explore the depths of their wounds without shame. The unconditional acceptance of Compassion and loves provides the foundation for Trust to occur between the client and the facilitator for all healing modalities.
Before I start my session, I will always ask my client if they truly want to heal. It's good to ask this question in different ways, as so often clients unconsciously are not ready to heal. I want the client to have a firm commitment that they want to put an end to whatever is challenging them. I also want the client to trust themselves that they have the innate ability to heal. The trust portion usually takes time as so often people doubt themselves and doubt that they hold within themselves a piece of Divinity that will help them through anything in their path. Whatever problem we have on our plate of life, there is always a solution as well.
During the WHEE session, I modified the setup phrase a bit and instead of an affirmation afterwards (I love myself completely, etc) I included the appropriate replacement positive statement relevant to the setup phrase. Here are a few examples:
"I recognize that a part of me is concerned over the pain in the back that shoots down my leg. I recognize that this temporary and that I will recover from this flare-up.”
"I recognize that a part of me is worried about having enough money to retire and recognize this is contributing to my back pain. I recognize that I tend to get over dramatic and that I am hardworking, have talents and will always be able to work if necessary.”
"I recognize that a part of me has back pain for feeling guilty and responsible for my son's failures in life. I recognize that I must forgive that part of myself for I am not to blame and my son has made his own choices and selected his own path to learn what he must. I am a good father and accept my son just as he is and will support him in a healthy and appropriate fashion.”
It’s well known that we all have different aspects, sub-personalities or subconscious archetypes of ourselves. Some examples include: the wise doctor, the corrector, the justifier, the preacher, the complainer, the puppet, the confused one, the happy sufferer, the driven one, the curious researcher, the one always left behind and left out, the playful explorer, the awkward shy one, the bragger, et. Therefore, I do not like say, "Even though I am having pain in my back..." for if the unconscious mind is like a child and takes what we say literally, it is programming ourselves that all parts of ourselves (the "I Am") are having pain when it really is just an aspect, an archetype, a part of us. The goal is to thus identify with that part of ourselves that is holding onto that imbalanced and distorted energy and clear it so that we may reintegrate that part of ourselves that has been separated. WHEE is very successful with this.
An example of a set-up phrase and replacement positive statement for a WHEE session would be: “I recognize a part of me likes to be critical of other people and this prevents me from building meaningful relationships. I recognize that I am critical because I see in other people the sloppiness that I do not like in my own life. I recognize that it is not necessary to constantly correct people but to stand back and accept them as they are just as I accept myself and all my aspects with unconditional love”.
As a WHEE practitioner, I continue to discover new ways to use WHEE in my practice synergistically with EDR and other alternative healing modalities. I am constantly impressed with the results using WHEE and highly recommend adding WHEE as part of whatever modality the practitioner is currently using. Lastly, I love the fact that I can have the client use WHEE for self-healing outside of the office.
