Astrology opens us to awareness of the planetarisations of consciousness, the way to real holistic life.  The language of astrology is clear and simple yet multidimensional and international - a truly holistic symbolism.  It helps us to develop intuition and expand consciousness.  It should be included with the basics of medical education.

Astrology enables us to tune in to the cosmic rhythm of every aspect of human life.

    In the last years of our century humanity is changing very quickly.  The rate of changes is accelerating.  Many things that seemed impossible are already facts.  This is true on all levels of being.  The purpose behind these changes, according to ageless teachings, is the awakening of the soul-consciousness in humanity and the establishing of the new Aquarian age.  This is not an arbitrary or fanciful statement.  It has objective bases in the cosmic interactions in which the solar system and the planet earth take part.  The new age will bring a spiritualisation of matter, manifesting spirit into form.  This is related to the seventh ray energy associated with the planet Uranus, the ruler of astrology.
   Astrology alerts us to the conjunction of Neptune and Uranus in the sign of Capricorn which will take place in 1993.  Because these two planets are the dissolving and revolutionising agencies in the solar system and because Capricorn represents the conservative traditional established, crystallised form of existence, this conjunction will bring about the transformations needed in everything old and rigid and the so-called 'new renaissance' in all areas of human activities.  Neptune rules higher forms of healing and Uranus rules astrology.  The essence of their conjunction is blending and fusion, with Capricorn providing the needed form and structure.

    Synthesis is one of the most important keywords in the new paradigm of medicine.  Synthesis can be brought about in several ways.
     I predict that 1993 will be the year of the official re-establishing of the seemingly lost connections between astrology and medicine, which in turn will refine (Neptune) and change (Uranus) all our conservative pictures and habits in the sphere of health and disease.
    Steps have already begun in this direction.  Medical astrology is being taught in Bulgaria, Poland and Russia.
    Further steps will include greater care in registering the time of taking the first breath upon the birth of every person and the calculations of birth charts of all patients.  Astrological computer services can facilitate these recordings and calculations.
    A third step can include the co-operation between open minded health care specialists and good professional astrologers, to diagnose and prescribe treatments for difficult problems for which conventional approaches are not sufficient.  Of course, healers and other complementary therapists can be of help here too.
    Further steps will evolve from this much needed initiative.  The key phrase of Aquarius is: "Water of life am I, pouring forth for the thirsty humanity."  The time for us to feel the truth of this sentence is very near, perhaps even now.  All we need is to open our hearts and minds to the voice of our higher self, and to be ready to learn more through the eternity of the rest of our lives.

    Astrology can be helpful in medical practice.  All the above may sound very theoretical andungrounded.  Let me share some personal experience in my everyday work as a Pediatrician in an outpatient clinic in Sofia.  It is an official State clinic, far removed from the concepts and practices of holism.  So I have to work very carefully.  I promised my soul not to disconnect astrology from my practice of medicine.  It is not easy to keep such a promise, but when I work in a team, some patients choose me and others go to my colleagues.  I suggest to some patients to come to me after work or during weekends. People are not rich in our country, so I haven't the moral right to charge high fees.  Their interest and appreciation mean a lot to me.  I have many connections with other doctors andhealers whose birth charts I have calculated.  So I offer some of my patients referrals to specialists according to their astrological compatibility and the problems as hand.  I combine official medicine with several alternative methods, including spinal manipulation, naturopathy, esoteric healing, Bach flower remedies, family counselling, medical approaches from the system of Master Peter Deunov,(1) and an overall intuitive approach.  But the basis for all I do is in astrology.
     I have not time to calculate the charts of all the interesting people I see because I lack a computer.  So, like in most things in my native country, we move slowly and deliberately.  This is also appropriate in my work setting.  I first make friends with my patients and their families.  When I feel there is a trust between us, I offer to discuss 'the other part of the story'.  Even people who knew nothing about astrology seem to understand and agree with the methods I offer.  Little by little I explain about astrology to my colleagues - doctors and nurses.  Almost always I read the birth date from the medical chart or ask the mother to tell me this, because it alerts me to much about the liabilities and possible mechanisms of illness in each child.  I know where the planets are and which important aspects are relevant at the moment, so sometimes it is possible to understand many things from even a brief calculation.  For example, allergic liability, or need for fasting, or a crisis, or whether I am the right doctor for this particular person, or what kind of healer would be the best, and even in what direction he is to be found and when this would be best to do.
     There are many karmic diseases.  They are absolutely necessary for the evolution of some souls.  Whenever I feel that such is the case, I try to discuss this with the parents.   Fortunately, the vast majority of the children are normal and do not suffer from serious illnesses.  In many cases we just discuss their characters and talents and I combine astrology, preventive medicine and education with help in seeking the right path in life and the purpose of the soul for this life.  We talk about spirituality and immortality and reincarnation, and the lessons of suffering, and many, many other things.  I feel that the work of the healer is first of all a path of service.  Serving people is not the same as prescribing prescriptions.  Sometimes patients get very angry because I provoke deep-seated and hidden shadows in them, and that too is material for lessons in life.

  A new spirit is developing in Bulgaria and the rest of Eastern Europe.  The most ironic aspect ofall this is that most of my knowledge came from reading officially forbidden books which came from the USA or UK.  For ten years I had to hide the light.  But now times have changed in Bulgaria and people are eager to learn and ready to share our experience.  In this way we contribute to the re-establishing of many beautiful, good connections which feel intuitively to be absolutely true but which have been lost in modern society's excursions into materialism.  We feel that time is ripe for a new life, a life for the Whole - as the Bulgarian Master Peter Deunov used to say.
    May the peace of God, the love of God and the bliss of God embrace the whole earth.

1. Master Peter Deunov, a great initiate of the White Brotherhood, taught in Bulgaria during the first half of our century.  His teaching is a unique presentation of the principles of Love, Wisdom and Truth.  He gave around 7,000 lectures as well as teaching occult music.  A Bulgarian medical doctor, Vassil Velev, after studying Master Deunov's teaching for his whole life, compiled a book called Health and Disease: The Master and Medicine, which is being translated into English.  There are two books in English edited by David Lorimer: Prophet for our Times: The Life and Teachings of Peter Deunov and Circle of Sacred Dance: Peter Deunov's Paneurhythmy, as well as several booklets and tapes of sacred music.  These are available from The Grain of Wheat Charity Foundation, 258 Kew Road, Richmond, Surrey TW9 3EG.
